  • I was most interested to see the photograph entitled ‘Building Bromfords Farm, Nevendon Road’, in Wickford library. My late father, George Amos, took that photograph. The names of the men from left to right as we face them are Harold Skinner, Charlie Sainsbury, Bill Garland, ***** Poole (I can’t recall his christian name and would query the spelling of his surname) and lastly Stan Doble who is leaning against the wall.In addition to this photograph I have one of the same group of men taken at the same time which includes my father in place of Harold Skinner. I also have one of the house in its final stages of construction which was again taken at the same time. These men between them almost certainly built the whole house with the exception of that work by specialist trades such as roof tiling, plasterwork, plumbing and heating. They were employed by Mr Foreman who traded as J H Foreman Builder and Decorator and was based at Ramsden Heath. I would be interested to know when these photographs were taken;  I can only surmise that it was sometime between 1953 and 1959.  Can anyone provide any information on this?

  • I remember the Brock Hill picture well. It was taken standing on the island in middle of Wantz corner, under the sign pointing to Chelmsford. I used to walk home from school up there. How things change, look at it now.
