Looking up Swan Lane from the Broadway

The Swan Inn is on the left corner of Swan Lane and an old cottage is on the right.

The original Swan Inn opened in 1880 and the present Swan was opened circa 1925.

  • The Postman was Ben Simpson He was my uncle. He is buried in St. Catherine’s churchyard. His grand children still live locally.

  • There was a cottage behind the Swan Garage, now flats. My local postie lived there. He was the uncle of my friend John Playle who lived in Elm Rd – Uncle Bob Croot knew the Playles and may know more. ERL
