Gigney 'advertising plate' found.

Gibney advertising plate

On Saturday 28 April 2018, the Community Archive group held its annual exhibition. One of our visitors mentioned that his friend had a plate made by Gigney’s, the harness makers who used to trade in Wickford at the turn of the 20th Century.

The plate is shown.

Mr Gigney certainly was a local entrepreneur, producing leather work, local view postcards and advertising pottery.

  • One of my 2 sisters-in-law has one, what in the family was I presume to be a one-off. Why would my sisters-in-law have one? They are the granddaughters of James GIGNEY, and I am married to the youngest.
I am researching their life, and find them fascinating, yet don’t really seem to be getting anywhere. Still hoping that a service document may turn up with the van registration number listed, maybe a Gigney saddle, or another GIGNEY POSTCARD.
There is also a link to the MOTTS of Coldnailhurst Farm, Braintree.
if anyone from the Wickford History Group have events, shows etc, I am sure that the family would love to be invited.

Editor: With the new data protection law, we would need an email address and their permission to contact them using it.
