Hall-Mark Hatcheries

Year Book 1952

In the 1940s and early 1950s I attended Eton House School in Thorpe Bay. One of my contemporaries was Brian Grove whose father owned Hallmark Hatcheries. A school visit was made there and I have just come across the 1952 Year Book we were each given on that occasion.

(Editor: The Year book is over 20 pages long but just the first few pages are shown here. We will show the book at the next Open Day of the archive.)

  • My dad did some driving for them back in 1963.

  • My grandad, Frank William Shynn, joined Hall Mark Hatcheries in about 1937 as foreman and worked there until his retirement. It would be amazing if there was a picture of him in this year book, as unfortunately all of our memorabilia was lost sometime ago.
My late father, Geoff Shynn, also joined the Hatcheries in 1953, and worked there until it closed, and I was born in the bungalow ‘Yamato’ attached to the property!
