Warders Bakers (2)

One of the delivery vans.

This photograph is from the collection of Noel Hindle, one of the directors of Hindle Smart, who made Helecs milk floats and, in this case, bread vans. It was given to me by Noel Hindle’s daughter and she is happy for me to send you a copy of the picture. Photographed in the early 1950s it shows a lady driver, with a bread basket on her arm, and was taken by one of the founders of Helecs Vehicles.

I would be interested if anyone can remember the colour of the vehicle. I have tried colourising various pictures, and while the background looks splendid, the milk float or bread van always seems to end up as a muddy shade of dark red, even when I know that the original colour was blue or green.

Noel Hindle's collection.

  • I know in later years all ‘Warders’ vans were green.
