On Saturday 28 April 2018, the Community Archive group held its annual exhibition. One of our visitors mentioned that his friend had a plate made by Gigney’s, the harness makers who used to trade in Wickford at the turn of the 20th Century.
The plate is shown.
Mr Gigney certainly was a local entrepreneur, producing leather work, local view postcards and advertising pottery.

Hi. Thank you for your reply. If you need any permission then my wife Jill is Reg Gigney’s youngest daughter. The eldest, Lesley, is still alive.
One of my 2 sisters-in-law has one, what in the family was I presume to be a one-off. Why would my sisters-in-law have one? They are the granddaughters of James GIGNEY, and I am married to the youngest.
I am researching their life, and find them fascinating, yet don’t really seem to be getting anywhere. Still hoping that a service document may turn up with the van registration number listed, maybe a Gigney saddle, or another GIGNEY POSTCARD.
There is also a link to the MOTTS of Coldnailhurst Farm, Braintree.
if anyone from the Wickford History Group have events, shows etc, I am sure that the family would love to be invited.
Editor: With the new data protection law, we would need an email address and their permission to contact them using it.
