The last photo is the Carlton Cinema. I used to go to it after school on week days, usually a Wednesday. The new films were shown Monday to Saturday but on Sundays old films from the 30s and 40s. I wanted to go to those to see my favourite stars when they were younger – Alan Ladd, Gregory Peck, James Stewart, Robert Mitchum, James Mason, but mothers did not like their children going out alone on Sundays so I could not go. Later the cinema closed and it became a Woolworths store.

Hi Geoff Interesting to see the pictures of Wickford High St. I lived there with my family in the mid 60s. My parents managed the bakery – Pardey & Johnsons at that time. I would be very interested to know if you have any such pictures of Pardey & Johnson stores from the the John Neville collection. Thanks Linda
