Southend Road bridge

This picture, which I don’t believe has been published before, shows the 1915 rebuilt river bridge in Southend Road. It shows both parapets.

Does anyone know when the left hand brick parapet was removed? Could it have been during the 1958 floods?

  • It’s there in photos of the 1958 flood, but gone in photos on the Francis Frith site captioned “circa 1965” (although that date may not be accurate). Yet I’m sure I remember the parapet being there when we moved to Wickford in 1964. So my guess would be that it was removed in 1965/6 or so.
