The big house with the portico was used as a library in the 1930s, before the library moved across the High Street. It stayed there until the present library opened in Market Road. The Congregational Church can be seen in the distance on the right hand side.

  • Is this taken from where the old bike shop used to be ? I seem to remember a cake shop being roughly where that shop with “Evening Echo”.

    Think there was a dirt road  roughly opposite London Road that was the entrance to the brickfields. Was it opposite or a little bit up Nevenden Road ?

  • The shop with the sign County Security was the Essex County Council Wickford Library in the 1950’s. The shop to the right was a sweet shop through out the 1950’s
