Some Personal Photographs from the 1958 Flood.

With a Shotgate perspective.

Andrea Paterson contacted the Archive in January 2024,  offering us these photographs of the ‘Flood of 1958’ with the slightly unusual views from Shotgate.

“I am clearing out my late mother’s things, including photographs, and I found these taken by my father of the flood in 1958 – I think they are all from 1958 – the Shotgate ones definitely are.
Kind regards, Andrea Paterson, (former Wickford resident – but left with my father’s Barclays Bank job relocation in 1973!)

There are 3 photographs of the railway bridge at Shotgate.

Also included are 2 photographs of a flooded Lower Southend Road.

This one didn't make it! Was it a write-off?
