Wickford Choral Group

Do you remember this Group?

This entry was prompted by finding an item in The Essex Countryside magazine dated August 1966, (Vol 14, No 115, page 724). There is a review of a concert given by the Wickford Choral Group and the Festival Orchestra at Beauchamps School.

“Unfortunately such was the placing of the orchestra that the chorus and the soloists were somewhat overwhelmed, and even Ranken Bushby’s full-blooded baritone in Stanford’s “Songs of the Fleet” was no match for the orchestral opposition. When the choir sang unaccompanied … one could hear that had it changed places with the orchestra the programme would have been much more enjoyable.”

Hopefully other performances by the Group were more successful.

Does anyone remember anything about it? Or were you a member?
