  • Going to and from St. George’s School, or shopping in Wickford, I would walk past this place and Mother would say “that is where the bomb dropped”. One evening she took me to the fairground by the railway station. On the way back, passing the site, a man jumped out of the bushes and tried to grab her purse but she was too quick for him and he ran off across the road.
