In September, Wickford Library celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Wickford Community Archive had covered every free surface with photographs of how the town had looked in the past and had a set of boards with the history of the Library.
The library staff had worked hard, decorating the building with bunting, balloons and streamers. Cakes, biscuits and tea were laid on for visitors and Geoff Whiter and I gave a short talk on the Wickford Community Archive web site. We were lucky enough to have the children from Wickford Junior School Choir come and entertain us. They sang beautifully and behaved so well. They were a credit to the school.
Many of the staff who had worked in the library over they past 25 years were able to come to the party and as an ex library staff member this made my day. Every one seemed to enjoy themselves and I have added a collection of photos taken on the day.
The display stayed up until Saturday 28th September when volunteers from the Archives were on hand to answer any questions visitors may have about the photos and website.
