Carnival Queen, 1945.

Earliest photographs of a named Wickford carnival queen.

We have recently been sent these photographs by the carnival queen’s great granddaughter, Michelle Gardiner. In 1945 this was the first carnival after the end of the war in Europe.

Michelle wrote “My grandmother was Molly Coxhead and she was Wickford Carnival Queen in 1945. Sadly Molly is no longer with us, but I want to keep her memory alive.

Here are a couple of photos I have.  Molly was so proud of her achievement all those years ago.”
