Shotgate

This photograph shows what is described as the “Lawn Estate” at Shotgate, and is possibly dated c.1930. It shows houses, probably built by the owners, andĀ individual plots for sale – denoted by the fencing posts .

However, I can find no record of “The Lawn Estate”. In a local history of Shotgate, Archers Farm, whose land was sold to develop the area, is described only as the Shotgate Estate. Does anyone have any information on this?

  • I lived at no.19 Fanton Walk, a semi; the other semi was Cubberly, from Clovelly, North Devon. They had a son who liked motor bikes. In 1947/9 elections, a Sid Purland, owner of the repair garage, went to go for an election which Bernard Braine won.
