Pre Roman coin found in Memorial Park 1986

A visitor came in to our Memory Desk at Wickford Library on Thursday and showed us plaster casts of a pre Roman coin found in the recreation park Wickford in 1986. It has been dated as 80-60 years B.C. and is a gold quarter stater coin. Has anyone any more information about the find?

  • The use of a metal detector is not normally allowed in a public park, but permission was given to use one to check the soil that had been dug out of a trench where a main drain was being laid through Memorial Park. The coin was found a little way into the park at the north end of Mount Road.
