The Park in Nevendon Road

Information required by Alison Windebank

I am trying to find out what (if anything) was on the original site of the Nevendon Recreation Area (i.e The Park).

I myself have lived in Wickford for 35 years and it has always been a park. I now work at one of the Pre-Schools on the sight which took over the Red Cross Building.

We would be interested to know if it has always been parkland or was something else there? Perhaps there were buildings on the Nevendon Road which were demolished to make way for the park entrance (which is located next to Chaplin Lodge).

  • I have lived in Wickford for 76 years and as far as I can remember it has always been an open area, until the Fire Station moved there. It was used for fetes and carnivals after they moved from the church fields opposite the Quart Pot public house.
