Award to Wickford Fireman, 1973.

Sub-Officer Bob Wright

In April 1973, the Sub-Officer at Wickford Fire Station, Bob Wright, was presented with an Exemplary Service Medal, for 20 years service. Wickford was a Retained Station with part time staff, and Bob Wright was the officer in charge.

The top photograph shows Bob being presented with his medal. The lower photograph shows him at the far left, next to him being Jeff Hart, Sub Officer at Rayleigh, and then Leading Fireman Wilkins, also of Rayleigh, who also received medals.

  • I can remember Bob Wright. My dad, Albert Percy Pitt, was a barber in Wickford, and there were times when Bob Wright would come to our house on a Sunday morning for dad to cut his hair. There were also times when the fire siren went and and Mr Wright had to rush off to a fire.
    I was at school with his twin daughters Janet and Carol.
