One of the oldest field maples in the British Isles gets a new seat.

Downham Church , St Margaret's

Growing in a country churchyard is one of the oldest field maples in the British Isles. It is 10 metres tall and has a girth of 465 cm. In 1995 the parishioners decided to build a new seat around the base of the tree as a pleasant place to sit in the shade on warm summer days.
